Lunar New Year, celebrated by millions worldwide, marks a time of cultural significance and joyous festivities. In 2024, we welcome the Year of the Dragon, a symbol of strength and good fortune in many Asian cultures. At Kids Club, we believe in the importance of immersing children in diverse traditions and celebrations, fostering cultural understanding from an early age.

Why Lunar New Year Matters

The celebration of Lunar New Year offers a valuable opportunity for children to explore different cultures, traditions, and values. By engaging in activities related to Lunar New Year, children not only learn about the significance of this festival but also develop respect for cultural diversity. This aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the National Quality Standards (NQS), promoting inclusive practices and acknowledging the importance of cultural exploration in early childhood education.

From Around the Centres

Kids Club Clarence St : Children had the unique experience of witnessing lion dance performances at Sydney Town Hall, where they actively participated in learning the intricate movements involved. This hands-on approach allowed them to appreciate the artistry and symbolism behind the lion dance.

Kids Club Collins St : Children engaged in hands-on activities such as making spring rolls and crafting traditional Lunar New Year decorations like Fu art, red envelopes, and lanterns. These creative endeavours allowed children to express themselves while learning about the symbolism and customs associated with the festival.

Kids Club Elizabeth St : A visit to Centennial Plaza provided children with the opportunity to observe traditional dancing, immersing themselves in the vibrant colours and rhythms of Lunar New Year celebrations. The exposure to different forms of cultural expression enables the children to broaden their understanding of cultural diversity.
