At Kids Club Clarence Street, we are committed to making a positive impact in our community. That’s why we have partnered with Share the Dignity, an Australian organisation that is dedicated to ending period poverty and promoting dignity for women and girls. We believe that everyone deserves access to essential sanitary products, and we are proud to support Share the Dignity in their mission to provide these products to those in need.
Accordingly, we set up a donation box in the foyer of our service, and encouraged families to donate much-needed sanitary products throughout the month of March. We have been overwhelmed by the response from our community, and we are grateful for the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of women and girls experiencing homelessness or domestic violence.
Share the Dignity is an Australian charity organisation that aims to provide sanitary products, bras, and other essential items to homeless women, women at risk of homelessness, and women experiencing domestic violence. The organisation was founded in 2015 by Rochelle Courtenay, who was inspired to start the charity after hearing about the indignities faced by homeless women and their lack of access to basic sanitary products.
Shelli Hanson, our Kids Club Clarence Street Director, said “At Kids Club, we are committed to community engagement and to helping our children experience connections and be engaged with their local community. Share The Dignity is doing incredibly important work to address period poverty and promote dignity for women, girls, and those who menstruate, and we felt that this was a cause that our community would be passionate about supporting. We are proud to be partnering with Share the Dignity and to be making a positive impact in our community.”
The mission of Share the Dignity is to ensure that every woman in Australia has access to the essentials that they need to manage their periods and maintain their dignity. They run several initiatives and campaigns throughout the year to raise funds and awareness, such as “Dignity Drives” where people can donate sanitary items and “It’s in the Bag” where people can donate handbags filled with essential items for women in need. Share the Dignity also works with community groups and service providers to distribute the donated items to women who need them the most.
