It’s important to make sure children learn to regulate and calm their emotions early on. Our pre-school kids in the Outback room on Elizabeth Street have created these sensory calming balls together for their calming area.

Make 5 different sensory balls for yourself and your kids with this recipe!

What you will need:

  • Flour
  • Zip Lock Bag
  • Black Permanent Marker
  • 5 Balloons in Mixed Colours

Method

    1. Pour one cup of flour into each of the 5 zip lock bags.
    2. Insert the zip lock bag into the different colour balloons (yellow, blue, red, green and purple).
    3. Draw the corresponding faces on the balloons with the black permanent marker (happy, sad, angry, disgust, scared).

Final Words

These calming, anti-stress balls will equip our upcoming calming area and they will be easily accessible to all the children who need to manage big emotions.

When these feelings arise, the children will be able to choose and squish the appropriate ball according to how their feeling and calm themselves down.

We hope that you were able to make your own calming anti-stress sensory balls at home, and practice these calming techniques as well!

What next?

This activity can be used both in a group setting with a class of children or one on one with your own child.

The Calming Balls now have their own special place in the calming area!
