December Educator of the Month
Sometimes it is easy to overlook the amazing work early childhood educators and teachers do in guiding and educating children every day. It is important to show recognition for the important work they do to shape the future leaders of our world. Educator of the Month is a way of showing appreciation for their passion, knowledge and enthusiasm. To recognise their achievements, their strengths and the challenges they overcome as a result of dedication, perseverance and team collaboration.
How do we select the Early Childhood Educator of the month?
We encourage families, children and educators to be involved with the selection process of Educator of the Month. Through involving everyone in the process it provides opportunities for families to voice their appreciation for the Educators and also allows the children to have a voice and thank their Educators who they love and admire immensely.
Our Surry Hill Centre has now been open for 3 months and is almost running at full capacity. The Elizabeth Street families and children are truly enjoying the beautiful centre and are very keen on our wonderful educators.
Our Educator for November 2016: Miss Abigail
Abigail’s dream has always been to work with children and see them grow and develop as human beings. This is why she loves being part of the Ocean Room where toddlers from 2 to 3 learn and evolve so quickly.
Miss Abi has a Certificate III in Early Education and Care and has been working with us since March this year. She first started at our Clarence Street centre where she gathered experience and tutoring from the team. In September, she was one of the first educators to join Elizabeth Street Ocean Room as soon as the Centre opened.
“Abigail has progressed tremendously” says Ocean room leader Miss Judy. “Our fresh from school educator is turning into a confident and caring early childhood carer. She is doing amazingly with the children and has so much enthusiasm the children are drown to her. She is great encouraging them to express themselves in a positive way“.
“It was my dream job to work with children. Now, I am living my dream
and making positive impact on young lives and families”. Abigail
What is your favorite moment?
Miss Abi’s favorite part of the day is Intentional Teaching when we gather the children in circle and get to sing together. “It is so rewarding to see the children engage in the activities and singalong.”
Wrapped in a wonderful moment, Intentional Teaching allows us to work on language, social and listening skills that are part of the curriculum for this age group. It delves into what makes the brain tick! Small story time and singing switch their brains on to increase their concentration. They move away from solitary play towards interaction with their friends.
“What I love about Kids Club’s philosophy is to listen to the children and cater to their interests. We adapt our activities to what is best for them” says Abi.
For example if one day they take the trains out, we will not only play with them but try to research them and learn about how they work, the difference with other means of transportation, if the children come by train.
“Communication is key in this job. Whether it is with the children, our colleagues or the parents. I enjoy building relationships with the families, keeping them up to date with their child’s discoveries and progresses. At Kids Club we understand it can be difficult for parents to be away from their little ones and we go above and beyond to include the parents in their child’s day to day experiences” (direct daily talks with the educators, open door policy, daily journal).
Thank you Abi for your enthusiasm. Keep living your dream!
